i recently watched a couple of “girly” things like the movie Twilight and the latest season of The Bachelor.
I think the writing and photography of Twilight is neat.  it was clever, it was smart.  it was shot beautifully.. it had a blue tint to it, kind of like The Matrix where all the real world scenes had a yellow tint.  Kristen Stewart is pretty. regarded as the first cultural phenomenon that my generation doesn’t get, i feel like we’re dismissive of it without even seeing it.  it was cool as a portrait - in my view, as soon as the movie needed a plot, some action to take it somewhere other than a painted picture of a high school vampire world, it dipped a bit.  “oh we need bad vampires! so they fight the good vampires! the girl gets taken!”  but i guess a movie needs a plot.  Also.  there’s a really weird scene with vampires playing baseball.  vampires playing baseball!  i guess baseball went around the cool cycle and the great american pastime is cool again.  Oh, and Edward’s house was really cool.
the bachelor was fun.  i don’t know if it was more of a male or female fantasy.  a man gets to date and choose from 25 women who, aided by the budget of a big show production, fall in love with him more than easily.  women get a show that celebrates romance, drama, getting dressed up.  it’s as real a setting as Twilight is, right?  and personally, after cringing multiple times throughout the first episode, i eased into the cultural atmosphere behind The Bachelor.  and even though everyone hated Vienna, I rooted for her throughout and am glad she won.  I’m disappointed that Ali is the next Bachelorette (her exit was fixed! after she decided she could do better than Jake).
so to recap:  i liked Twilight and enjoyed The Bachelor
