tonight I saw the Dodos and was really, really impressed. i have their album, but seeing it and live totally changed my perception. dude can play the guitar. great songwriter, good voice, and ingineuity in their writing. what a great performance. you have to see them live, it’s so much more than a recording. the singer can manipulate a layering pedal on the fly, creating a four piece harmony in the blink of an eye. sometimes, a third member is on the stage but when the song doesn’t call for it, he simply leaves. also, two things that you don’t hear enough.. dynamics (really loud, then the next second, really soft), and stop time, when the band stops at the same time and hits the same accents. every detail is catered to, not only when a sound starts, but when a sound ends (cymbal mutes and mutes on the guitar). obviously this is easier when there’s only one guitarist/vocalist and one drummer without cymbals, but hey it works, and doesn’t stop them from sounding BIG. forecast Dodos: sunny
